Coat of Arms for the House

As house corporation volunteers, we have all walked around the property of our chapter house and discussed the “what ifs”. The one large “what if” that I talk to alumni about is what can they do with the front of their house besides hanging a “Θ” and “Χ” to make it stand out just a little bit more than the other fraternity houses.

If you have ever taken a trip to Indianapolis and visited the Headquarters of Theta Chi Fraternity, you will immediately see a brass coat of arms on the front of the Headquarters.

When the Gamma Xi Chapter house as San Jose State University was built in 1962, the chapter commissioned an artist to create a three-dimensional copy of the Theta Chi coat of arms. It was a unique piece, made of plaster and painted red, white and silver, proudly installed over the mantle as the centerpiece of the chapter’s formal living room.
